Introduction
This homepage contains the results of genealogical investigations, recently undertaken
by members of the Koewing family.

Where did the earliest Koewings live ?
The earliest registry I found was dated 1550 in an assestment roll of the
principality Goettingen in the 15/16th century. There were listed:

• Kaspar Kofing in Niedernjesa
• Jacobus Koefinck in Elkershausen
• Claus Koefing in Gross Schneen

The next registry I found was dated 1585. It's a list of the population of
the principality Calenberg-Goettingen at the end of the 16th century.
There were listed:

• Jasper Koefing in Niedernjesa, 30 years old
• Christoph Kofing in Niedernjesa, 28 years old
• Kofingsche Widow in Elkershausen
• Jacob Kofing in Dramfeld, 52 years old, born in Niedernjesa
• Claus Koefing in Gross Schneen, 54 years old, born in Niedernjesa

They all lived in the south of the city of Goettingen within a radius of three kilometers.

My eldest known ancestor is Hansen Koewing, born about 1629, died 1703 in
Niedernjesa, principality of Goettingen, Germany.

 How many branches are known?
Recent findings show that all Koewings must have one common ancestor. I found
many lines of the Koewings and most of them have a connecting line to the main
branch. The rest of the lines had a line who's ending in Goettingen or surround of it,
up to now. My research still goes on....
